Simon & Schuster - Content Writing
I wrote engaging blog content for Simon & Schuster's Off the Shelf blog. Specifically, I wrote listicles about the publishing company's previously published books.
Client
Off the Shelf was Simon & Schuster's content vertical. It highlighted books previously published by Simon & Schuster to help readers rediscover great reads they might've missed.
Project
I wrote 1,000-word book roundups. Each blog post highlighted eight to ten books assigned by Off the Shelf's content editor. The turnaround time for the posts was two weeks, which included writing, researching, editing, revising, and submitting the piece.
Process
After being assigned a listicle, I researched each featured book. The sources I consulted included book reviews published in national news outlets like The New York Times and Simon & Schuster's own book summaries.
Since the goal for each blog post was to encourage Off the Shelf's site visitors to read the books featured on each list, I focused on highlighting details that would entice them to read the novels.
For example, I thought of popular films or television shows to compare the books to and focused on a relatable theme for each novel (e.g. heartbreak, resilience, and dreams). I also made sure my writing aligned with Off the Shelf's personable brand voice.
After researching and writing the listicles, I proofread my pieces and uploaded them to Grammarly to make sure my writing was clear, concise, and compelling.
I then submitted a draft to the editor, who often returned with minimal edits and lavish praise.
Deliverable
The final product was multiple engaging and insightful listicles that highlighted hidden gems in Simon & Schuster's vast catalog. View all of my pieces for Off the Shelf on their website or click an article link below.
